The Double Wedding Ring Blanket Gets a Makeover

You know that feeling when you finally finish something that’s been quietly hanging out on your to-do list for years? That’s how today feels.

After many, many hours of planning, filming, editing, typesetting, and checking and rechecking, the newly updated version of the Double Wedding Ring Blanket pattern is here. And I couldn’t be more relieved—or proud.

This pattern has always held a special place in my heart. Over the years, I’ve heard from so many of you who’ve made it for weddings, anniversaries, and other milestones. It’s an incredible honor to know that something I designed becomes part of such meaningful moments. That’s honestly what kept me coming back to this update, even when it felt like a massive mountain to climb. I just wanted to do it right—for you, and for the blanket itself.

I’ve been keeping a hard copy of the pattern in my notebook for ages, and every time one of you reached out with a question or suggestion, I scribbled it down. The original didn’t have a ton of errors, but there were little things—missing clarifications, requests for more detailed information, typos that slipped through—that I always meant to fix “someday.” This update is me finally keeping that promise to you (and to myself).

One of the most-requested additions? A video tutorial for the motif. It’s in there now, along with another video walking you through the join-as-you-go assembly process. I know some of us are visual learners, and I hope these videos make things a little easier, and maybe even a little more fun.

Another thing I’m really proud of is that the pattern is now fully accessible. That was a big learning curve for me, but such a worthwhile one. Using new design software (Affinity Publisher, if you’re curious), I was able to create a version of the PDF that works with screen readers, includes alt text for images, and follows best practices for digital accessibility. I want everyone to be able to enjoy this craft, and this felt like an important step toward that.

• A 13-page photo tutorial walking you through every step of crocheting the motif and assembling the blanket.

• Two video tutorials: one for the motif and one for the join-as-you-go assembly.

• Four stitch charts for quick reference—single motif, join-as-you-go on 1 side, join-as-you-go on 2 sides, and the border.

• A Sizing Chart showing motif counts and joining sequences for all six blanket sizes—a handy reference for planning your layout and assembling your blanket.

• A fully accessible 26-page PDF, optimized for screen readers.
