Introducing the Shadow Plaid Wrap

A relaxing, meditative make, the Shadow Plaid Wrap is the project you’ll reach for at the end of the day to help you unwind.

How It’s Made

Construction: This wrap is worked lengthwise from the bottom up with increases at the beginning and end of each row.

Stitch pattern: A variation of granny stitch, you’ll work (ch 1, 2 dc) in each chain-1 space between 2-dc groups.

Colorwork: Tapestry crochet colorwork is used to create the vertical stripe pattern. You’ll change colors after every 2-dc group.

Working into chain spaces like this gives the fabric a lovely, soft drape — perfect for large accessories like this wrap. And best of all, the fabric is completely reversible.

Whether worn around the neck or around the shoulders, this wrap is a lot of fun to style and wear!

Make Your Wrap Uniquely Yours

As written, the pattern will have you use one main color for the vertical stripes (the burgundy in my sample) and four contrasting colors for the wide horizontal stripes (mauve, light mauve, gold, and light gold in my sample).

But that doesn’t mean you have to do what I did! To help you choose the colors for your wrap, the pattern includes a coloring sheet along with some color scheme examples for inspiration.

Plus, you can customize your wrap even further by changing the width of the horizontal stripes. Maybe you want to make this a true plaid with a sequence of horizontal stripes. Or maybe you want to use up some of your scrap yarn and make your stripes in a variety of colors.

To help you customize your wrap like this, a table offers a breakdown of the yarn amount (in grams) required for each row to help you determine how much yarn you will need for each stripe. (Because the wrap is trapezoidal, the amount of yarn needed for each row increases as the depth of the wrap increases.)
